Yona Marie Gives and Old Italian Aria Its Trap-Soul Life with "Will You Remember"

Yona Marie is an up-and coming singer-songwriter from the DMV who is bringing new life to an old classic; well, Baroque to be exact.  Her latest single, “Will Your Remember”, pays homage to Henry Purcell's popular Aria “Dido’s Lament” from the Baroque opera “Dido and Aeneas”.

On the track, Yona puts a modern spin on a centuries old story--the deeply distressing tale of Dido’s ultimate undoing. The Carthage queen was abandoned by her lover, Trojan hero Aeneas, and suffered intense emotional turmoil that leads her to the act of committing suicide on a pyre built to burn her faithless lover's possessions.

Within 3 seconds of clicking play, I found myself listening to a sweet soulful voice reminiscent of Brandy mixed with a dab of Jill Scott. With just a subtle breathiness to her tone, Marie's sexy soulfulness is a joy to the ears.

"I aint gonna fight it... I'm ready to go under"

With her rich production, dynamic vocal range, and a special featured showcase of her operatic capabilities, Yona Marie brings a fresh musical arrangement to the lyrical work of Irish poet Nahum Tate, giving this epic historical masterpiece a trap-soul-classical styled remake that may be completely new sound no one has heard blended together until now. Her future is bright.
